Donald Trump meets with Zelenskyy and European leaders

President Donald Trump Statement on Ukraine and Russia War

Donald Trump meets with Zelenskyy and European leaders and says that I don’t know if it’s strictly necessary, but you can achieve peace. However, I prefer a ceasefire from another standpoint immediately stops the killing. I believe a peace agreement at the end of all this is very attainable and can happen shortly.

Of all the wars I’ve been involved in resolving, this is the last one left. Of course, as soon as I walk out the door, another one might start, and I’ll have to stop that too. But I thought this would be one of the easier ones; it’s one of the most difficult, very complex.

The next step would be a trilateral meeting, and we’ll work that out. I look forward to achieving a great result. We’re going to spend a lot of time today discussing this, and I’m honored you all came here. These are the heads of major countries, respected all over Europe, and they largely speak for the rest of Europe as well.

According to Russian news, the Russian President also says that we also want peace in the world and we deal with Ukraine to stop this war.

Remarks by President Zelenskyy

Thank you so much. I can speak without a microphone. I had a very good conversation with President Trump, maybe the best one yet, though hopefully, the best is still ahead. We discussed very sensitive points:

We are very happy that all the leaders are here. Ukraine’s security depends on the United States and all of you. Many countries stand with Ukraine, and our people want to end this war, stop Russia, and stop the bloodshed. We spoke about this, and we’ll discuss security guarantees further. It’s crucial that the U.S. is sending a strong signal and is ready to provide these guarantees.

Exchanging all prisoners is very important. I believe President Trump will help, and I’m very thankful to your wife, Mr. President, for her letter about our abducted children. I hope this can play a historic role in reuniting families.

We’ll discuss these at the trilateral meeting. President Trump has offered to organize it, and Ukraine would be happy if he participates. We also reviewed details on the battlefield with maps. Thank you for the map, by the way. It was great, I’m thinking about how to take it back!

President Zelenskyy

No, no, no—this one is special!

This was a constructive, specific meeting, and I’m very thankful to all the leaders here. Your support means a lot, and we’re happy to see such unity today.

Thank you, Mr. President.

Response from NATO Secretary-General

I’ll be brief. Thank you, President Trump, for breaking the deadlock with President Putin by initiating dialogue back in February. From there, we’ve reached this point today. If we handle this well, we can end the war, stop the killing, and stop the destruction of Ukraine’s infrastructure.

I’m excited about today’s discussions. Let’s make the best of it and ensure we bring this war to an end as soon as possible. Your leadership is crucial, and your willingness to participate in security guarantees is a breakthrough. Thank you.

President Donald Trump:

NATO has also agreed to increase defense spending from 2% to 5% a massive commitment. That’s a big move, and we appreciate it.

European Commission President’s Remarks

It’s a pleasure to be here at this important moment. We stand together as friends and allies. We’ve just finalized the largest trade deal in history, and now we’re working toward a just and lasting peace for Ukraine.

Stopping the killing is our shared goal. Security guarantees, especially Article 5-style commitments, are essential. I also want to emphasize the return of abducted Ukrainian children as a mother and grandmother; every child must come home.

German Chancellor’s Comments

Thank you, President Trump, for hosting us. Today’s meeting is extremely helpful. The next steps will be more complicated, but the path is open.

We all want a ceasefire—ideally by the next meeting. I can’t imagine serious negotiations without one. Let’s pressure Russia to make this happen. The credibility of these efforts depends on it.

President Donald Trump:

In the six wars I’ve helped settle, we didn’t always have ceasefires; sometimes we just negotiated. But if we can get one here, that’s great.

Italian Prime Minister’s Statement

Thank you, Mr. President. Today marks a new phase after three and a half years of no dialogue from Russia. Something has changed thanks to your efforts and Ukraine’s bravery on the battlefield.

Italy stands with Ukraine. We must ensure this never happens again. Security guarantees are key. I’m glad we’re discussing an Article 5-style model, which Italy has long supported.

French President’s Perspective

Everyone here wants peace. A trilateral meeting is crucial, and perhaps later, a quadrilateral one, since European security is at stake.

A ceasefire is necessary for progress. Security guarantees must include a strong Ukrainian army and our collective commitment. Europe understands its role in this.

British Prime Minister’s Input

This war has impacted us all. Today, we can make historic progress on security guarantees. The U.S. joining our coalition’s efforts is a game-changer.

A trilateral meeting is the logical next step. If we achieve security guarantees and advance toward peace, today will be remembered as a turning point.

Finnish President’s Remarks

In the past two weeks, we’ve seen more progress than in three and a half years. Team Europe and the U.S. are united behind Ukraine.

Finland shares an 800-mile border with Russia. We’ve faced them before and found solutions. I’m confident we can do it again in 2025.

Closing Remarks by President Trump

This is the first time the White House has hosted so many leaders at once, quite historic.

We’ll continue discussions in the Oval Office. I believe President Putin wants a resolution. In a week or two, we’ll know if peace is possible. Either way, we’ll save countless lives by trying.

Thank you all—and thank you to the media for your fairness. This is too important for anything less.
